New Bern, North Caroline
Fairfield Harbor
(April 8 - April 13)
Could not even begin to count how many bridges we have crossed on this trip. Seems like the Caroline's have river after river after river. We even traveled on a spaghetti overpasses across the river. Lots of water and swamps in this neck of the woods.
Our resort for 4 days, the longest stay on our trip so far, is a harbor view unit. Named thus because they overlooked the harbor where the yachts were. It rained the first two days of our stay so we hung out at the indoor swimming pool and hot tub and went to some of the resort activities. The evening movie at the activity center was, Megan Leavey and we were the only ones there. (So thoughtful of Howard reserving the whole show just for us. lol)
The sunsets were amazing and the sunshiny days showed off the blooming trees along the road.
And look what was along the side of the road, a 1957 Chevy. Howard found what he was looking for. Just haven't figured out how to fund it and get it back to Utah. So, it will sit on the side of the road. But we can still dream about it.
Fort Macon
Fort built to protect the coast during many wars.
A Seashell chair is something to think about.
New Bern, NC
Old Downtown area
Settled in the 1700's
!st capitol of North Carolina
The first day with full sunshine we went to the the history section of New Bern and walked the streets of the 1st capitol of North Carolina seeing the Tryon Palace, the museum and all the quaint little shops. Window shopping was enjoyed by both of us. On one corner was the pharmacy building where Pepsi was born. Originally called, Brad's drink. Very interesting to walk through. Couldn't leave without getting a Pepsi float and a can of the original 1893 Pepsi.
The Atlantic Beach, NC
Just can't drive past a beach when the sun is shinning. We soaked up the sun, collected a few shells and sand, and just sat and watched the waves roll in and out. Along with the waves the dolphins were swimming, about 20 of them. Guess they must have been swimming somewhere to celebrate National Dolphin day coming up on April 14th.
Dolphins!!! We saw the dolphins swimming north off Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. We counted 20 swimming in the school. Of course, they all did jump about the same time, but the camera women only captured the tail end of the dolphin performance.
